Winter Recommendations

It is now the best time of year! It’s beginning to get a little bit glacial! Before you know it, it’ll be Christmas again. Here’s some recommendations to immerse yourself in the Christmas spirit.

Movies and TV

Home Alone: By far one of the most popular Christmas movies that I know of. This 1990 Christmas comedy is a must watch.  This movie follows an eight-year old boy, Kevin McCallister, who is mistakenly left behind when his parents fly to Paris for Christmas vacation. While initially spending time by himself, he is greeted by 2 would-be burglars, Harry and Marv. Kevin finally manages to outwit both of them.

Holidate: I recommend this movie for the juniors and seniors only.  It follows two strangers Sloane and Jackson who are fed up with the holiday couple’s season. They agree to be each other's platonic plus-one’s, only to catch real feelings along the way. This movie is great if you're looking for a comedy.

The Santa Clause: This movie follows a businessman, Scott Calvin. One night he inadvertently makes Santa fall off his roof and finds himself magically recruited to his place.

Holiday Home Makeover: This TV show is great if you’re into renovating and non-fiction tv shows. It follows Benjamin Bradley and his team of workers working around the clock to bring holiday cheer to families and communities deserving a home makeover for Christmas.

Activities

Go see some Christmas lights: Go to ELJ farms in Jacksonville! They show the lights every year and you get a drive-thru experience. If you're looking for a trip or going on one, a great way would be to see the Meadow Lights! It’s located in Benson, NC and you can get on a train ride to see the lights! It’s very decorative as well. They also have a concession stand to get hot cocoa if you’re feeling lukewarm. Lastly, they have a little Christmas candy shop, you can go to get some candy.

Treats

If you’re in need of some sweet treats. I recommend getting some almond roca, or peanut butter balls. I also make some delicious Muddy Buddies! The recipe is right on the back of the Chex Mix box during Christmas time. I also recommend buying sugar cookies or some decorated Christmas cookies from the store.

Mason Jar Snow Globes: All you need is a mason jar, some glitter, water, a small plastic Christmas tree, and glue. Cover the bottom of the plastic tree with gorilla glue and attach it to the mason jar lid. Fill the jar with water (or baby oil, whichever you prefer) and add glitter as necessary. Attach the lid to the jar and shake! Boom, an easy snow globe!

Chocolate Coffee Stirring Spoons: For this simple project you’ll need: spoons, chocolate, peppermint pieces, microwaveable bowl, and parchment paper. Melt your chocolate (white, milk, or dark chocolate) in your microwaveable bowl. Dip each spoon in the melted chocolate and set each one on the parchment paper. Sprinkle with peppermint pieces and let cool. Stir the chocolate spoons in a nice cup of joe. Enjoy!

Gingerbread Sugar Scrub: For this giftable DIY project grab brown sugar, oil, essential oil, and a bowl. Combine brown sugar and oil in a bowl, mix thoroughly, and add almond essential oil. If wanting to achieve the gingerbread cookie shape, use cookie cutters! Let sit to dry, and enjoy!
