Don't Stress the Test: Stress Strategies

"Yayyy, exams are coming up" ...said no one ever. If you're anything like me, you get really stressed about tests. The pressure of how much they will affect my grade gets me super nervous and stressed. But there are ways that help me get through exams:

  1. The obvious answer is to study. Even though you don't know what questions are going to be asked, just the thought of being prepare and knowing the material is a confidence boost through the test.

  2. Your brain is a muscle, like any muscle it needs to be warmed up. You want to warm up your brain in a similar way that you are going to be tested. This means doing nay study guides that your teacher might give you or looking past assessments to see your mistakes.

  3. SLEEP! We've all been there, in first period you start to close your eyes and you head does that notorious head-bop. But, the night before make sure to get plenty of sleep! You don't want to be taking a test on a sleep-deprived brain.

  4. It is important to eat something nutritious before an exam. Apparently, bananas are good to eat before an exam. The potassium in them helps reduce anxiety and stress.

  5. Don't underestimate yourself! If you keep telling yourself that you're going to fail ...you're going to fail. Encourage yourself before and throughout the exam.

Hopefully, you feel a lot better about taking the final exams. If you feel that the pressure of exams is getting to you, reach out to your counselor at student services for more individualized tips for test anxiety/stress. YOU GOT THIS!
